Happy Monday Saints! To start our week off right, our Campus Minister, Father James Dalton, will share a story of a Saint, along with a reflection to help us consider how we can learn from their examples. ⠀ ⠀ Our school bears the name of a young Italian virgin-martyr, St. Maria Goretti. St. Maria Goretti was born to a farming family. When her father died when she was nine, Maria took over household duties (cooking, sewing, cleaning) while her mother, brothers, and sister worked in the fields. ⠀ ⠀ The family had to share a house with another family, the Serenellis. One afternoon when St. Maria was twelve, Alessandro, the Serenellis’ twenty-year-old son, made sexual advances to her. When she refused to submit to him, Alessandro stabbed her fourteen times. Maria was taken to the hospital, where she died forgiving him. He was arrested, convicted, and jailed. During imprisonment, he repented. It’s #TeacherTuesday, where each week we spotlight a member of our outstanding faculty and staff! Today we spotlight Mr. Devenney, one of our Health and Physical Education teachers. ⠀ ⠀ Mr. Devenney received his Bachelors in Sports Management from Immaculata University. Since joining the SNG family in September he has quickly integrated himself into the school community. Mr. Devenney is a natural leader and has been an excellent role model for our students! ⠀ ⠀ 💬 We asked Mr. Devenney “What do you like about SNG?” ⠀ ⠀ 👨‍🏫 Mr. Devenney told us: “Being new to SNG, I had no idea what to expect. But from the second I walked through the doors in September I was greeted with the utmost support from our administration, faculty, and staff. It has been such an easy transition considering all the changes we have had to adjust to. The students deserve a lot of credit as well, collectively our students have come together and made the experience of the classroom enjoyable.” ⠀ ⠀ 💬 We also asked Mr. Devenney “What is something people would be surprised to know about you? ” ⠀ ⠀ 👨‍🏫 He told us: “Previous to teaching I was a member of the Ireland National Baseball team. In July of 2018, we competed in the European Championships for baseball. We won the first gold medal in baseball for the country of Ireland. It was one of the best experiences I was able to participate in!” ⠀

It’s #TeacherTuesday, where each week we spotlight a member of our outstanding faculty and staff! ⠀ ⠀ Today’s spotlight shines on our Algebra 2 teacher, Ms. Black. After receiving her Bachelors in Math from Penn State, Ms. Black joined the SNG Math faculty in the fall of 2018. Since then, she has completely immersed herself in the SNG community. Ms. Black is a member of our math leadership team, has moderated Mathletes and the SNG Yearbook, and is now the new co-moderator for Student Council! ⠀ ⠀ 💬 We asked Ms. Black “What is your favorite quality about SNG Students?” ⠀ ⠀ 👩‍🏫 She told us “My favorite thing about the SNG students is how they’re always willing to tell me how it is. If something isn’t working, they’ll let me know so we can fix it as soon as possible so they can get the education they came to receive at SNG. They also never fail to make me laugh while just being their true selves.” ⠀ ⠀ 💬 We also asked Ms. Black “Who is your favorite teacher at SNG?” ⠀ ⠀ 👩‍🏫 She responded “My favorite teacher at SNG is Mrs. Rossi. She is constantly making me laugh while also reassuring me that I’m doing my best. She’s always so full of life while giving her students all that she has!”
