Letter from the Principal – 3/23/2020

Dear SNG Parents & Guardians:

The Governor of PA has announced that all PA schools which were closed until March 27th will now be closed through at least April 6th. All Archdiocesan schools, and therefore Neumann Goretti will continue to remain open “virtually” during that time and support our students through our Flexible Instruction model. Thank you again for all you all of your support at home.

The latest PIAA release is attached. Press Release – Governor extends school shutdown

Have a great Tuesday.

Celebrating FIDs!

Sisters Mary Anne, Eileen and Anne Brigid joined with religious communities around the world on Sunday, 3/22 for a day of worldwide solidarity and prayer.  In the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel in the IHM convent on our campus where they reside, they had an extended time praying for the global community.  Their Alphonsian heritage and their lived experience call them to be “first responders” at the prayer level.

Letter to Students from Principal – 3/23/2020

Dear Students,

I hope this email finds you and your family well. Please know of my continued prayers for you and your family during this time.
I’m very proud of all your work so far during this transition to online work. May God bless and support your work this week.
The third quarter ends this Friday, 3/27. I expect you to respect and meet all of your teachers’ deadlines.
As your Principal, it is my duty to advise you regarding social distancing. A few years ago we developed a graduate profile. In that profile we stated that we strive for all Neumann Goretti students to be developed into “world citizens….who respect others, themselves, and God’s creation”. Please be sure you are doing your part during this time to be a good citizen of not only the Neumann Goretti community but of your family, neighborhood, city, country, and world. That means educating yourself on the latest recommendations of the experts and then doing your part to follow them. Those recommendations are attached to this email.
Also be sure you are educated on and following the latest orders of our city which can be found here https://www.phila.gov/media/20200322130746/Order-2-Business-And-Congregation-Prohibition-Stay-At-Home.pdf . You should pay particular attention to sections 5 and 6.

Letter from the Principal – 3/21/2020

Dear SNG Parents & Guardians:

With your support and patience, we’ve accomplished what seemed to be the impossible – transitioning to online learning over a weekend and completing a week of instruction! Please know of my gratitude to you, our teachers, staff, and Administration for the overwhelming commitment to the success of this transition.

Daily attendance for week 1 has averaged 96%!

We are in the process of gathering information from your child’s teachers of students of who they are concerned are falling behind after the first week. We will then have guidance counselors, Administrators, and staff personally reaching out with phone calls to parents and guardians to review those concerns and offer guidance.

Please know of our continued prayers for you and your family during this time.

Here’s a pic collage of some of our teachers and staff working from home to brighten your day.

Letter to Students from President – 3/19/2020

Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you are doing well in these crazy times. I must say I am very impressed over the course of the past 3 days with your commitment to your learning. It is a reflection not only on you but on your teachers as well. It shows that you respect their efforts in continuing to educate you during this time away from the school. It has been a crazy few days, but we will get through and we will get back to a normal routine as soon as we can. Make certain that you check-in before 9a each morning so that we can make certain you are present and ready to tackle the day. In this environment it is easy to become complacent and procrastinate – don’t; remain structured and get into a strict routine as your day will be much more productive all around. Understand that Mr. Quigley, Ms. Torres, Sr. Anne, Mr. Townsend, Fr. Dalton and myself are working hard behind the scenes doing whatever we can to make certain your education continues in the tradition of excellence you are accustomed to at SNG. Work hard. Stay focused. Ask questions if you do not understand. Keep smiling and remember to wash your hands. We are here if you need us. We’ll chat soon.

Letter from the President – 3/19/2020

Dear SNG Parents & Guardians,

A Message from the School President

As the father of two girls still in school, I understand the feelings of uncertainness in these crazy times. But rest assured that having two daughters only pushes me harder to make certain we do everything in our power to see to it that your child’s education continues in the manner in which they, and you, are accustomed. Trust me when I say our educators are committed and hard at work making certain your child is successful. Be patient – as this is new to you, it is new to us as well. Two things I want to bring to your attention. First the facility. We were ahead of the game!! In October, 8 automatic hand sanitizers were installed around the building, two on each floor, and as word of the virus began to surface we noticed the students were actually using the sanitizer more and more each day. In late January, trying to get ahead of the NORMAL flu season, we had our custodial team take an entire weekend and spray a disinfectant throughout the entire building – classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, door knobs, etc. Every classroom was provided Lysol wipes and a large can of commercial Lysol spray to be used each day. To top things off, while the students are away continuing their education from home the custodial team is once again in the building disinfecting everything they possibly can, preparing for the students return. My point being, your child’s health and welfare are important to the entire SNG community and we are doing our part to make certain your child remains safe upon their return. I would expect that for my children, and we will deliver for yours. The second item is tuition. I would ask that you continue to make your tuition payments as agreed and if by chance you are behind, please bring the account up to date by 31 March 2020. If current events have left you in a bind financially because you lost a job, please reach out to Mrs. Arrigale in our tuition office immediately so that we can better understand your challenge, and find a solution acceptable to all. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jmccolgan@neumanngorettihs.org

Be safe. Be well.

Joseph M. McColgan. President SNG

Letter to Students from Principal – 3/18/2020

Dear Students,

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day and Happy St. Joseph’s Day (3/19)!

I hope this update finds you and your family well. Please know of my continued prayers during this time.

Pastoral Messages from Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez in the Wake of the Coronavirus  (COVID-19) Pandemic

Below are three areas of your performance that I encourage you to personally reflect upon before you begin your work on Thursday morning. I all these areas are going well for you – keep up the good work. If not that is ok too – please know that I am very proud of each and every one of you. I don’t expect perfection – I just expect you to try to be your best everyday and work to do better and grow the next day. As we continue with these online days, I’ll continue to bring to your attention anything that I think you should be aware of so that you are set up for success.

Attendance

Overall, I arm very impressed with students logging their attendance. It’s very important for your health and motivation that you establish a maintain a healthy routine during this time. Remember, a student must log their attendance before 9am on the Google attendance form that is posted in their Google Classrooom Homeroom each FID. If not, they will be marked absent for the day.

Academic Integrity

I expect nothing but the best from you at all times. I know this time of transition is challenging. I thought I worked a lot of hours before but this last couple of days have been overwhelming at times and I’m sure that is the case for you and your family as well.

Please know my position that when it comes to any form of cheating, plagiarism, academic dishonesty (whatever you want to call it), I fully trust the judgement of your teachers and support their decisions and will not entertain debates or negotiations of their findings and neither should they. You and your teachers are working so hard to get this transition to online learning right. I am asking you to have not only respect for the work that your teacher is putting into your course but more importantly respect for yourself. Your work is a reflection of you and your character – the challenge is to always have your work represent your best self even when there may seem to be a short-cut. Most importantly, you can do your own work! – believe in yourself – this is your education and ultimately it will be what you make of it – we can only be your guide. Thank you again for your commitment to excellence. We are preparing you for life and from experience, I can tell you that there are no shortcuts that are worth it in your professional or personal life. Let us help you learn that now before we send you off into the world.

Professionalism

Please keep it professional when writing emails, posts on Google Classroom, etc. You should not be casual, sarcastic, use emoji’s, make unnecessary comments, etc. Never write from emotion – take a break and then go back. Ask someone at home to look at what you are about to send. I do this all the time at work. Once you put something in writing it is there forever and leaves an impression. Choose your words wisely and again always make an effort to put your best self forward. Let us guide you to learn this lesson now so you are prepared for your future education and workplace.

Sincerely,

Mr. Quigley, Principal

Attendance

Thank you again for your support. Overall we are very impressed with student’s logging their attendance. Let’s continue to work together to establish healthy routines for your teenager during this new endeavor. A student must log their attendance before 9am on the Google attendance form that is posted in their Google Classrooom Homeroom each FID. If not, they will be marked absent for the day.

Academic Integrity

We need your support at home so that students understand the importance of maintaining the academic integrity for all of their work during the FIDs. Please know my position that I fully trust the judgement of my Faculty and support their decisions and will not entertain debates or negotiations of their findings. Thank you again for your commitment to excellence.

Professionalism

Please speak with your child about the importance of constructing professional emails and posts on all platforms being used for school work during FID’s, especially when communicating with school staff. I know that sometimes with high school work it is challenging to determine when and how to support your child, but this is an area where you can be more confident reviewing your child’s written communication style with her/him. I have advised the Faculty to correct once and if a lack of professionalism becomes a pattern to reach out to you. Thank you for being a partner in working with us working on this important life skill.

Sincerely,

Mr. Quigley, Principal

Letter from the Principal – 3/17/2020

Dear SNG Parents & Guardians:

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day! Congratulations on completing Day 1 of Flexible Instruction – we appreciate the support!!

Working from a School Device: If students use a personal computer and use their school account to do school work, the filters from school will still apply and their activity will still be tracked, so if you deviate from school work into unsanctioned activities or sites, they are still in violation of the technology policy. Use of your school-issued device while not mandatory and not enforceable at home is the expectation and will offer more security and boundaries than using a personal device. In these times it is important to be diligent about logging in and out of accounts. Please be sure you are reviewing the Responsible Use Policy for Technology regularly at home beginning on page 37 of the student handbook http://neumanngorettihs.org/studentlife/student-handbook/ .

This video link might me be helpful info to you as an intro to the overall concept of Google Classroom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Iowi-gmbys .

Biology 1 Assignments will begin to be posted and graded for 3/18.

Please know of our continued prayers for you and your family during this time.

Letter from the Principal – 3/14/2020

Dear SNG Parents & Guardians,

As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, I’m writing to provide you with what information I can as you begin to plan with your families to transition to a temporary but nevertheless new lifestyle.

As of now the transition to online learning for our school is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, 3/17. I plan to provide detailed information for you by Monday so that your Tuesday can be as productive and meaningful as possible. As you may have anticipated our platform will be Google Classroom.  Please re-familiarize yourself with the Archdiocesan Responsible Use of Technology policy located here beginning on page 37 of the student handbook

http://neumanngorettihs.org/studentlife/student-handbook/.

We are awaiting further instructions as to whether the building can be opened briefly for teachers / staff / students to pick up any items.

As we are all well aware, for students a full day of school is not only the hours spent engaged with a class but just as important is the time spent outside of the classroom (in-person or virtual) completing assignments, reading, reviewing notes, studying, etc. Therefore all students should plan to spend up to 7-9 hours on school work per day just as they would if they had school and homework under normal circumstances. This must be the mindset of all student and their parents/guardians in our school community during this period of remote learning. I am certain that our families will meet this challenge as they have all other challenges we have faced with compassion, courage, and commitment.

I respectfully request the time to finalize the initial version of our detailed online learning plan with the school Administration and Faculty. Please do not reply to this email as the detailed information that will be released may answer many questions you may still have at this time.

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. I will be in touch again no later than Monday evening.

Sincerely,

Mr. Quigley, Principal[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-paper-plane” add_icon=”true” title=”3/13: Letter from AOP” tab_id=”1584632771415-84cc1206-9133″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tour][/vc_column][/vc_row]
