Football is Devon’s Heaven!

How football, family, and focus drive this Neumann-Goretti standout

By Grace Battaglia

Devon Major is not only a phenomenal student at Neumann Goretti, but also part of our football team’s offensive line. He started playing the game at age 10 and has been dedicated ever since. You may see how great he can play on the field, but his personality is what really shines about him the most. When asked, he said his father was the person who inspired him to start playing football. “As a kid, I always had a football in my hand,” Major said. He tried playing baseball as well as a kid, but he always knew football was his real passion. His favorite football player, without a doubt, is Walter Payton.

Devon is a super quick learner and stays dedicated to his team. “If the team needs me to play a different position to win a game, that’s what I’ll do.” Although Devon is great in these ways, all players have their weaknesses. Devon said his weakness is that he gets frustrated when something doesn’t go the way the team planned it to go. “I show it on the field sometimes, even though I shouldn’t.” When this happens, Devon has to remind himself what he is there for. “I just stay focused and I remember that I’m not playing just for myself, but I’m playing for my team and the people I have at home that are watching.” Devon’s family always makes sure to be at all of his games, bringing all the spirit and support. “Every time I play football, I see the joy that comes from my family and how proud they are of me.” Football taught Devon how to be a team player. “If you do your job, everything else will just fall into play.” Devon’s favorite pre-game song is “Break Stuff” by Limp Bizkit. Devon is not just there for his team, but his friends describe him as “someone who is always there for you and by your side.” Hopefully, we will see Devon Major in the NFL in the future, but if not he will be a successful entrepreneur!
