Three dedicated players reflect on their inspirations, challenges, and dreams beyond the game.

At Neumann Goretti High School, three football players—Khalil, Kyreese Bradley, and Deante Ruffin—have each carved out unique paths in the sport they love. Through challenges, personal growth, and unwavering support from family and mentors, they share insights into what fuels their passion for the game and where they hope to go from here.
Khalil (Jayden Green) began playing football at a young age to stay out of trouble, quickly developing a love for the sport. Known for his physicality on the field, his biggest challenge is learning not to dwell on mistakes but to see them as opportunities for growth. Khalil’s motto, “Just Do It,” keeps him grounded and motivated. He recalls his first interception at age ten as a defining moment in his football career. Supported by his family, including his parents and little brother, Khalil dreams of a future where he can provide financial stability for himself. Guided by the advice of his mentor, Coach Will, who taught him not only about football but also about life, Khalil envisions a career as a therapist in the next decade. His go-to pregame hype song is “Gravity” by NBA Youngboy.
Kyreese Bradley found inspiration in his cousin, who saw his potential and encouraged him to try out for football. His role model is Derrick Henry, the Ravens’ running back, and he prides himself on his work ethic and mental resilience. However, he sometimes struggles with overthinking. Kyreese finds strength by playing for those who can’t, especially his mother, who recently passed away. Her memory drives him to succeed, reminding him to keep his loved ones close. His journey reached a turning point in his sophomore year during a game against Wyomissing, a pivotal match that ended with a last-minute touchdown. His pregame anthem is “Last Minute” by Lil Durk, and he keeps his aspirations close to his heart, including possibly learning more about Islam overseas and settling down with a family in the next 10 years.
Deante Ruffin moved to South Philly and joined Neumann Goretti halfway through his junior year. Having played since age four, his family and his bond with Coach Alby motivated him to transfer and continue his football journey. Deante’s knowledge of the game, developed through years of experience, is his greatest strength, though he’s working on being more vocal as a leader. His pivotal moment came when he started as a quarterback as a freshman. Supported by family who travel hours to watch him play, Deante is driven by his love for his family, especially his younger brother EJ. He lives by the words from John 13:17: “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” His role model is Tom Brady, and he aspires to play in the NFL or, if not, pursue a career in medical sales. His go-to pregame hype song is “Foggy Dew” by Connor McGregor.
Together, Khalil, Kyreese, and Deante showcase the heart and determination that define Neumann Goretti’s football team. Each of them, motivated by family, mentors, and personal growth, holds dreams that extend far beyond the field, reminding us of the values that drive them both in sports and life.
