It’s #TeacherTuesday, where each week we spotlight a member of our outstanding faculty and staff! ⠀ ⠀ Today’s spotlight shines on our World History and Psychology/ Sociology Teacher, Mr. James. As one of the newest members of the SNG teaching family, in his short time here, Mr. James’s confidence in the classroom is easily noticed by students, faculty, and administration alike. Mr. James received his Bachelors in History from La Salle University. We are excited for the passion Mr. James brings to the classes he teaches and to the overall SNG community! ⠀ ⠀ ???? We asked Mr. James “What is your favorite lesson to teach? ” ⠀ ⠀ ???????????????? His response “Any lesson where I can involve the students and use an activity to teach the main concept or achieve the daily objective is best. Psychology probably has more opportunities for students to learn via hands-on student-centered activities which I have used in the past. Such lessons I have enjoyed teaching and I have noticed the students most enjoyed were lessons about: Sensation and perception, the eye, or memory. Any chance I can have for the students to work in teams on a project or game – I find those to be most memorable and effective.”

Happy Halloween … and Happy Saint’s Saturday! Starting today our Campus Minister, Father James Dalton, will be posting about a new Saint and reflecting on how they can impact our lives. ⠀ ⠀ Our school bears the name of the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia, Saint John Nepomucene Neumann, CSsR, so it is only right that we shine the spotlight on him first. Saint Maria Goretti will be in the wings for next week! ⠀ ⠀ John was born in the Kingdom of Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, on March 28, 1811. He studied for the Priesthood; however, his bishop suspended priestly ordinations since there were so many priests and not enough positions for them. ⠀ ⠀ In 1836, John traveled to the United States in the hope of being ordained. Within a year, John was ordained in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and later joined the Redemptorist Fathers in 1840. ⠀ ⠀ In 1852, John was appointed Bishop of Philadelphia and ministered to the German, Irish and Italian Catholics, who were coming to America in large numbers. During John’s administration, new parishes were being established at the rate of one per year. John was the first bishop in America to organize a diocesan school system. ⠀ ⠀ St. John Neumann passed away on January 5, 1860, at the age of 48. His remains rest under the altar of the altar of St. Peter the Apostle parish at 5th street and Girard Avenue in Philadelphia. ⠀ ⠀ You can learn more about St. John Neumann at: https://loom.ly/14OMXUI ⠀ Saint John Neumann, pray for us. ⠀ #SaintsSaturdays
