Mrs. Messina (teacher at Our Lady of Hope and mom of Joseph, Class of 2019) and our very own Profesora Andeliz were among many educators, counselors and principals from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at the workshop, Building Resilience. The speaker, Ken Ginsburg, is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also is director of health services at Covenant House Pennsylvania, where he serves Philadelphia’s homeless and marginalized youth.
The workshop focused on how every parent and educator wants to help their teenager or student to navigate the journey to become happy, confident and contributing adults. Dr. Ginsburg shared different strategies and tips for educators to be able to guide their students and be the influence they want to be in their students’ lives. He also focused on what is positive about youth, acknowledged how stressful their lives can be and spoke about how they can leverage their strengths to make positive life choices.
It was a very meaningful and moving workshop and we hope to be able to implement many of the strategies featured.
